Since releasing the EP Tomorrows Not Promised this past February in conjunction with Triple P's Saadiq, Reggie B has cranked out another delectable bit of soulful futuristic funk for our enjoyment.

On "Poison Candy" he calls a woman out for being beautiful on the outside but ugly to the core. Although there's no talk of big butts and smiles, it's a more grown up version of BBD's "Poison," if you will. I'm sure we all unfortunately know a few dames like this, so now there's some theme music to play whenever they come around.

Tribe Called Quest

Toronto's DJ M-Rock has been working on a brand new mixtape paying homage to A Tribe Called Quest. You can never go wrong paying tribute to such a great group, and I’ll let M-Rock explain why he chose to do such a mix. Enjoy and be educated.

"I’m the biggest Tribe fan so it brings me a lot of pleasure to drop this mix. I haven’t followed their solo acts much, but I watched them like a hawk growing up. In fact, the first piece of music I personally got my own hands on was their first album from the public library. I can talk all day about this group, its emotional for me in fact, because my fav. genre is hip-hop and after midnight marauders, hip-hop split into underground and pop, and I found both styles were trying too hard.

However, I did relate to Tribe. Tribe’s music is honest, it doesn’t have commercial appeal and it succeeded because these brothers were close and very gifted, far from the average. They got paid as a group and didn’t fight over cheques. When they started falling off, the beats got mathematical and sample-free, they went soft as they brought J-Dilla in, who’s ironically one of the rawest producers ever. With that in mind, this mix is none of those wacker moments, it’s the straight rawness of Tribe. Go watch the movie, by the way, it’s incredible. I hope you all really enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it."

A Tribute to Vinia Mojica

Have you heard of Vinia Mojica? If you think not, it might be true that you don’t know her name - but I bet you know her voice. This Bronx native has been on the hip hop scene since 1989 first working the Jungle Brothers and since then has collaborated with Common, Mos Def, Native Tongues, Mary J, Ge-ology, Hi-Tek, Jneiro Jarel and many more.

To pay homage to this amazing vocalist who until this day doesn’t have a full body of work released , the Mint Collective put a mixtape together with Los Angeles local, DJ Seano and compiled some of Vinia’'s stand-out tracks. JEsse boykins III presents Way of a wayfarer

Jesse Boykins III satisfies our appetite for new music from him with the release of Way of a Wayfarer. Ending Black Music Month on a high note, Jesse dropped the six-song EP on June 30th and it serves as a reflection on his journey over the past three years since his last project, The Beauty Created.

It doesn't seem like it's been that long and it's crazy how time flies, but during that spell Boykins has gotten his name (and hair) out there and gained notoriety yet there's still room for his star to ascend. Way of a Wayfarer gives us a glimpse at what else he's capable of on cuts such as "I Can't Stay" and "Back Home (Mermaids & Dragons)." He's still cast in the role as loverman but on more uptempo tracks to balance out his catalog of languid soul, which is also found here on "Zoner." This EP is an eclectic and welcome addition to Jesse's body of work and really raises curiosity for the direction that Love Apparatus will go in.
